Founder and Executive Chairman of Econet Group and Cassava Technologies, Strive Masiyiwa is an entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. He currently serves on the boards of Netflix Inc, Gates Foundation, and National Geographic Society, and global advisory councils including Laurel Strategies, Bank of America, Stanford University, and Bloomberg New Economy Forum. He previously served on boards including ARIA (UK), Unilever Plc, and The Rockefeller Foundation.
Through his family foundations, Higherlife Foundation and Delta Philanthropies, led by his wife and his eldest daughter Elizabeth Tanya, he has supported over 400,000 scholarships for African orphans, vulnerable children, and gifted youth, from early childhood to doctoral studies. The foundations continue to invest in catalytic social impact initiatives in Africa, focusing primarily on education, health, rural transformation, sustainable livelihoods, disaster relief and preparedness.
A graduate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University, Masiyiwa was named in 2025 on Time’s list of the World’s 100 Most Influential People in AI. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by Princeton University, Stellenbosch University, Yale University, Morehouse College, and Nelson Mandela University.
